I am completely devastated I recently lost my Medicaid I'm a single mother of 2 kids and work at a factory making minimum wage they do not have health insurance at my job and I lost it because I make to much my kids get it but I don't which feels like a death sentence to me because I can't afford my insulin and diabetic supplies nor any of the other meds I take i called my pharmacy to see how much all my meds cost for one month and it $2,155 I don't even make that in a month.

I am in the same boat as you! It’s bullshit!!
Annie Stitchers
I don't know much about it, but can you file a dispute? Maybe contact your US senator for your state? When my daughter had a stroke that took her right side and a single mother, she couldn't get help, I called our senator's office and she got things rolling.
David Taylor Jr.
They have clinics that are based off your income and they also help get your meds.

Yes Health Right

I was going to say the same thing I go to a clinic with a sliding scale fee I pay 55 to see my doctor . She helps me get all my meds at a discount. She even checks around to see who has the best rates. Some of the clinics even have med assistance programs like I'm going through to get one of my meds free
Scottie Turpin
I hate this I'm very conservative but I don't think anyone in this country should go without health insurance.
I'm in the same boat I was told to call about Obama care .If you make below 30 thousand a year I beilive it's free to you.
Elissa Seth
File a dispute, also most of the medical companies have a financial hardship program, contact each company . Which meds are you on ?
Miriam Melling
also call your governer when i was married to my ex husband and we had moved to a new state and was having to live with family and had to buy our own food ,had no money we tried to get foodstamps and was turned down hubby called governer and we had stamps later that day we didnt stay on them very long as he did get a job and we did get our own place but it helped

The medical system in the US is appalling and inhumane.
Shame on the richest nation in the world and how it treats its own citizens.
As for the $2155 monthly cost, that is hyperinflated by the US pharma companies.
On the open market outside the US I am sure out would be a fraction of that

I take insulin from Walmart due to insurance conditions!
Brandi Pardee
Laura Woods I do as well
Violet Moon
Me too
Cindy Murray
Do I call Walmart or can I look up what they
Either or! I get my metformin at publix for free!
Heath N Chaney Parr
Walmart has insulin over the counter I believe it’s $25 and a lot of medication have generic brands and you can get them for $4 there also and if you download a app called GoodRx you can find coupons for medicine as well that will help get those prices down. It’s absolutely ridiculous how expensive insulin and some medication are.
Laurie Forman
If you make minimum wage and have two children, something is not right here. Work with your physician and ask for help with your prescriptions. What meds are you on?
Barbara San Miguel
Laurie Forman we have no children .even worse. today I understand why bad decision to marry. Just live together.
Scottie Turpin
This is the problem with America. They reward broken family's and make it were you can't get married cause of insurance.
I'm facing this issue we both work very hard pay taxes and can't get married cause I wouldn't have insurance .
They need to do away with welfare that rewards lazy people and give universal health care to people.
That way you wouldn't go broke and have to choose health care or food.
Barbara San Miguel
Scottie Turpin not or but and
Barbara San Miguel
Never been on welfare. I do notice companies like it. They don't have to pay medical premiums or for medical. Can keep wages down so employees keep benefits.employees like as there medical free and rx also. Some housing cheap. Say 250 verses 1500 . 1500 a dump ...250 nice. just frustrated why welfare and earned income. Did IRS give instead of taking. Earned income should be what they owe. Free housing. That's earned income like a lottery ticket or Christmas bonus. Or take into account food and rxs and copay no choice but credit card because when that maxes out then what do those that don't qualify do for food and rx and medical.
Bunny Langridge
Can you appeal the decision?
Jennifer Parr First off, you need to appeal the decision. You need to do it quickly as they only allow so much time for you to appeal. Second, I would find your nearest community clinic. They usually offer services on a sliding scale and you may qualify for free service and reduced prescription costs (the clinic I go to has their own pharmacy so they can better control costs and a lot of other clinics contract with a local pharmacy for reduced costs). Third, whoever is prescribing your medications can help you find patient assistance programs through the drug manufacturers which will greatly reduce or even eliminate any cost to you. In 2017 I was put on two medications that were over $2400 a month, even WITH insurance. I was working full time and my insurance was pretty good and I still qualified for the patient assistance programs for both meds and didn’t have to pay a thing.
I know it’s scary to be faced with this, but with a little bit of footwork and research, you’ll be ok. I had absolutely no prescription coverage for all of 2018 and had to do a lot of work to get my medication situation figured out.
There are also things like GoodRx.com that has coupon codes and will even list your local pharmacies with the lowest cost for your medications. Walgreens also has a program for $25/year that covers tons of medications to give you a lower cost as well.
Again, it will take some work, but there are ways to manage without having prescription coverage. But most importantly, APPEAL the Medicaid decision ASAP!
Jennifer Parr
By the way, I’m a former social worker and have been on both sides of the Medicaid system in my state. I know each state can be different but no matter what, there will still be an appeals process. When you appeal, they should set up a hearing which will be to gather more information on your specific case. Be prepared with any and all documentation you can to prove your medical conditions and why you need the medications you are on (I know that should be self explanatory, but the system is stupid and needs every little thing laid out). Also keep in mind, it’s not a super quick process either, so while you’re waiting for your appeal to get processed, be taking the other actions I suggested above.
Cindy Murray
Jennifer Parr she said she mailed the paperwork on January 29th and I should be receiving it today or Monday would that have the appeal information?
Cindy Murray
Jennifer Parr thank you for this information
Jennifer Parr
Cindy, it should have the appeal information. Again, every state is different, but in my state, every single letter they send about any changes (even when they are letters of approval for various things) has a whole big section about making an appeal and the process to do so. If for some reason your paperwork doesn’t have the appeals information, you should be able to contact your case manager(I’m assuming that’s who is sending you the paperwork). You might also ask her if she can get you a list of available resources in your community. Before I worked at my local social services office, I only knew about the normal resources, but after I started working there, there was actually a 10-12 page (front and back) list of community resources that were available for all kinds of stuff. Not necessarily medication stuff, but it might be helpful for you to have a list of resources that could help you save some money elsewhere.
Cindy Murray
Jennifer Parr I live in Missouri in a small town
Jennifer Parr
Cindy, I’m in Missouri too! So, yeah, you will have the appeals process stuff with your paperwork. I know Family Support Division is quite backed up with all that stuff, so it will likely be 3-5 months (hopefully not quite that long) for the appeal to be processed and get a hearing date. They approved me for assistance with Medicare premiums and it’s been three months and it still hasn’t kicked in yet. On the plus side though, even if it takes a few months, they will go back at least 3 months to cover any services.
Cindy Murray
Jennifer Parr i just got the letter today
Jennifer Parr
Cindy, you can still appeal it. It might be possible that you would qualify for the spend down program
Cindy Murray
Jennifer Parr what is that program
Jennifer Parr
Cindy, it’s still Medicaid but the spend down program means you pay a monthly cost to have your Medicaid. They base the monthly cost on your income.
Jen Wasylkowski

That's terrible. I was in the same boat for years. I had to even turn down extra hours (when people called out) at times because it would put me over the income limit. For a while I went to a clinic that a doctor there would write a prescription to use at the clinics pharmacy for a discounted rate. Even then you have to be careful not to go over their limits as well. Healthcare is just so broken here.

Call your health department or go to the medicaid website. There is usually a step above Medicaid that people qualify for if they make too much for regular medicaid. You'll have a small fee, but it's nothing compared to regular insurance and it pays for more than normal medicaid. The health dept should be able to at least direct you to name of it.

You also need to appeal their decision because of your costs

And they wonder why people draw on assistance instead of working....they make it impossible for a decent family to get ahead..but yet foreigners can come here, and get everything for free...even get help starting their own business..help them thrive and succeed here..but the very people that work their butts off have to suffer and scrimp and save to make ends meet...

I lost my Medicaid too at the end of December. When I called and asked why, I was told I did not qualify and I shouldn't have had my Medicaid to begin with; I can apply for disability Medicaid though. That can take up to 3 months to be approved. I asked them to send me an application and when it came, it was an application for family planning.... I'm 50 years old, I don't think I need birth control at this point in my life. SMH.
I'm an in the process of disability and waiting for a decision currently, I don't have any money, hell I haven't worked in 4 years. I literally have $5 to my name. Not only am I diabetic but I also have COPD, depression & anxiety. One of my inhalers is $321 a month. Nevermind that I'm on oxygen.
I have no clue what I'm going to do if my O2 company calls and wants their equipment back or a monthly rental fee.
Good Rx has helped and I also was able to apply for patient assistance from the company that makes 2 of my inhalers.
One of the grocery stores here offers metformin for free and Walmart has a meter that is $9 and test strips are $9 for 50. In that instance I'm covered.
This country, and our politicians are way too concerned with the wrong things.
