50 isn't horrible. I'm type 1 and sometimes if I hit a pocket my BGL will drop to 25. Lowest I've ever been is 19. It rarely happens but it does happen.

Penelope Dorson
It’s bad. No matter the type diabetic you are.

Janet Keller Allen
50 is much too low. Cassy please try and get a continuous glucose meter which will alert you to lows. Some people can't sense when they are going low, and the level tou mentioned could put you in a coma.

Joyce Gerren
Lowest mine been is 32.

Janet Keller Allen my endocrinologist has worked with me for about 5 years. My insurance doesn't cover a CGM. My target numbers are 70-125, she said if I drop below occasionally it's fine, but if I continuously do so, more than twice a month, I need to contact her. I've been Type 1 for 23 years, you build up scar tissue from constant insulin injections, sometimes the insulin isn't absorbed into the surround muscle tissue and it creates what's called a pocket, when the pocket reaches compactly it bursts and what results is the dramatic drop in BGL. Everyone preaches about CGMs and yes, they are a life saver and so much easier, but some of us have to make use with regular old supplies. My A1C is 5.6, the highest, when I was a rebellious teenager who didn't care about her health was a 9.2. I never said being that low was a good thing, I just said it happens and it isn't the worst thing in the world as a diabetic.

Jennifer Redus
Janet Keller Allen exactly what she said!

Janet Keller Allen
As a type 1 would your insurance cover a pump?

Cassy Johnson
Why would I need a pump? I have control of my BGL. I only inject two, maybe three times a day.

Janet Keller Allen
Because you mentioned the scar tissue from so many injections and pockets of insulin. Pump would significantly reduce that issue. Keep checking yearly about the cgm and your insurance. The endo I saw last year said more and more insurances are covering them as the technology improves. She said insurances that didn't cover earlier versions are covering the cgm-5 for example.

My Dr says under 70 is dangerous!! Glipizide gave me lows. Only on metformin now.

JoJo Price
Karen Belin for you tea. I have a fasting between 60 and 68 all the time. Lows for me are 20-30, as we each are different...

Rick Cross
Yeah, YMMV - Your Mileage May Vary. I lived with very high blood sugars for at least two years and when I finally got into a new diabetes doctor, he told me we can't lower your blood glucose too fast or you might have a heart attack! He told me I might feel hypoglycemic at 150! 😮

Erica Thompson
Rick Cross This is true. Lowering it too quickly can make someone feel downright awful.

Katherine Hawley
Yes. Was taken off glipizide and increased my metformin

Rick Cross
Unfortunately, I can't take Metformin. I was able to when I was first diagnosed but due to bowel issues, I had to stop taking it.

Shegufta Farhat
Is that tab. Metformin ok for diabetes during pregnancy period??i have to take 1 tab metformin in everyday.by the grace of god I m now 33 weeks pregnant. But tensed about my suger.plz pray for me <3

Joyce Gerren
Talk to your OBGYN baby. He can tell you what's best.

Aurora Beiser
Shegufta Farhat When I was pregnant, I was on Metformin for gestational diabetes. I was on it less than two weeks before I got bumped to insulin. I definitely would talk with your OB to make sure they want you on it.

Lane Cook
I have hit 50 many times. Next time just take a few sugar pills or other means to increase bs and save on medical bills.

oJo Price 50 is low? Low tolerable for me is 20-30's

Erica Thompson
For most diabetics 50 is not fine. Just because it is for you, does not mean it is for others. Under 70 is considered the danger zone, especially for diabetics on insulin.

JoJo Price
That maybe what your doctor tells you but definitely not the norm. Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to comment. Now back to business🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Erica Thompson
That is what science says, but alright.

Karen Belin
Erica Thompson I agree!!

JoJo Price

JoJo Price so sorry. Thought you were asking advice with your ? My Apologies!!

It's funny how even in a support group we still find ways to shade another person to make our self feel superior. Thank y'all for sharing your experience and knowledge. 💕

Mike Kemery
for me T2 when I get below 90 I get cold and stomach pains I try to keep mine at 100-115 like dr wants so far good about 90% of the time

JoJo Price
Mike Kemery exactly thank you for stating this is DIFFERENT for EVERYONE!!!

Angela Valverde
Is DAGOBA 100% cacao ok for diabetics?

Erica Thompson
Glipizide drops blood sugar like insulin. Like a rock. You have to stay on top of your numbers and make sure you're eating enough good carbs and protein.

When it gets low, drink orange juice and have an egg or a cheese stick or whatever you have that's handy.

Karen Belin
I’m wondering if we all aren’t talking about different readings?? Mg/dl or mmol/l. I’m thinking this is why there are conflicting opinions.

Emi Hughes
Hope you had glucose tablets near by... or OJ?

JoJo Price
For low blood sugar the rule of thumb is 15 carbs, recheck in 15 minutes.

Jessica Marie Boorman
Update! My doctor has taken me off and put me back on METFRMN. The GLIP, was consistently plummeting my blood sugar. I am type 2 andy readings should be between 95-125 with meditation. I hadn't gone above 80 since I started the other medication. I was feeling dizzy, confusion, sweating, and not right. When the EMS came my blood pressure and heart rate was not right. I thank you all for your advise. However, some of you say it's fine to be that low. And you are not right, you can go on the national diabetic website or ask a nurse and doctor. They will tell you like high blood sugar, low blood sugar is dangerous too. 50 is too low for me, it affected my cognitive behavior. For me.it was scary, and luckily I ate a Banana sandwich and ate some spaghetti ( how I miss pasta!) What a treat .lol thanks again for your support and insight💕😁

Glass of soda or orange juice helps me and it can happen at any time

I still do not know how to count my carb and sugar in take. I do not eat enough and when I finally do I feel nauseous. Waiting on my insurance to send a nutritionist. My sugar dropped from not eating. I just had gained so much weight, and I'm losing weight. So, Everytime I eat I think of how big I am.and I don't need to eat. Ugh! Can't win

Dave Carter
It's not that difficult when you get used to it. One of the first things I did was buy a book called Carbs & Cals, which gives the numbers for hundreds of different foods. You also need to get into the habit of automatically reading the nutritional box on the packaging. I noted down all my foods on a spreadsheet, so I could track them and managed to basically halve carbs in three or four weeks.

Jessica Marie Boorman
The first thing u do when I buy food is reading the side. I look for carbs, sugars, alcohol sugar, sodium, sat fat, corn syrup and so on. I only drink water really, juice here and there. I feel as though I've hit a wall in my meal creativity. Besides diabetic I have high blood pressure and low iron. Everyone says to keto, but can't . So , my food balance is tricky at times. My biggest issue is not eating frequently. And walking more. I am a full time student as well as mom of four. I sit and study and cook dinner clean house . That zaps me, however started taking apple cider vinegar shots with tumeric. Starts your metabolism
