I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes a month ago today

I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes a month ago today. I have joined a couple of different support groups around that time but I have been very timid about posting or commenting on things because the first time I did I was verbally attacked for suggesting the wrong food and kicked out of the group. But then I realized that these groups are supposed to be there for support so I decided to be more out and involved and hope for the best.

Since my diagnoses I have made many changes in my life. I have started my lifestyle change with the GI Diet as my guideline. I got the approval from a nutritionist at my local diabetes clinic and it kinda gave me that boost of confidence that I may have an idea of what I am doing lol. Since my diagnosis I have started Metformin, which I was worried about because I have read some horror stories of the symptoms others have had, but I have lucked out with no major symptoms. I have also lost 12 lbs and am working harder to lose more.

I know I will have my ups and downs but I am hoping that I can just keep moving forward with the support of my friends and family and hopefully all of you!

This is what we have to do, share our wins and losses and hopefully we can all learn from each other. We are all different and we need to find our own paths, this is not a one size fits all disease. GOODLUCK!

Unfortunately right at this group I was insulted by Marija Kirova for no reason! Stress is one of the major problem caused by diabetes and this group it suppose to give consideration , support and advice on how to manage easier the nasty symptoms of diabetes! The admin, simply removed the ridiculous comments from that post and did not give any warnings to the members that are here to disrespect others! In order to enjoy this group, the admin must to do some order around here!

Welcome. It is a long hard battle. Things are different from one person to the next. Half your battle is to except it and move on. And to have a doctor that will back u up. I hear a lot of people say they don't have a good doctor. Look for one. Remember they work for you. You pay them to help. If they don't move on. Good luck. Any question no matter how silly you think it is ask. You can get all kinds of good answers thru this group.

As a 10 yr diabetic, one of the big things you need to do is figure out which foods spike your blood sugars and which ones don't. For me bananas spike me but not my wife, on the other chicken spikes her. Just test before meal and 2 hours after. If you are right foods, your bs should rise more than about 50. Good luck.

A question: How can chicken which is a protein and fat and has no sugar or carbs in it spike blood sugar? I am trying to learn this.
